Asthma can cause difficulty with your child's attendance - especially with our changing weather. Your child's inhaler and nebulizer treatments can be given at school. All medications and tubing for breathing treatments must be supplied by parent. – The Request to Administer Medication Form must be completed by both parent and physician. Call your school nurse if your child's condition and treatments change.
If you would like your child to carry a rescue inhaler an Asthma Action Plan must be completed and kept on file in the nurse's office at school. . The physician must indicate that your child has been instructed and understands self medicating and can carry their rescue inhaler. There is an area on the bottom of each form for parent's signature.
All medication must be properly labeled. Please ask the pharmacy to put the additional label on the inhaler This will allow inhalers to be placed back in correct boxes in the event they become separated.
**Remember, if students carries their inhaler, the school nurse can’t monitor their asthma. Be sure your child knows to come to see the nurse if their asthma inhaler does not give them relief or if they need to take too often.**
